Emergency Protection Supplies

Supplies for your emergency kit

I'm not a gun advocate (I definitely don't consider the NRA to be one of my favorite organizations and I dislike the idea of anyone having a massive gun collection just for the heck of owning a bunch of guns because they are so dangerous), but sometimes they can be a useful tool.

Note: Always store weapons and ammunition in a lockbox, especially if you have children. Make sure all members of your home (including older children) are properly trained to correctly use each weapon (you don't want a curious kid pressing any triggers because he/she didn't know what it did, and you don't want to try to figure out how to use the weapon when you need it the most).

  • rifle with extra ammo and trigger lock (can also be used for hunting if necessary)
  • handgun with extra ammo and trigger lock
  • pellet gun with extra ammo and trigger lock (best for individuals who don't like having guns in their home because they are much less likely to be lethal but can still be intimidating since they often look like regular guns and can cause pain)
  • hunting knife with sheath that can be attached to a belt or wrapped around your leg (can also be used for hunting)
  • pepper spray (can be attached to your key chain))
  • bear spray (a stronger form of pepper spray that can help frighten away animals, including bears and people)
  • optional: stun-gun (it's a nice non-lethal weapon, but I'm not a huge fan of anything that requires someone to get so close to you)
